To the mama considering a second child: My second baby just turned one, and as I reflect on the journey, I want to share a few things I’ve learned. When I first brought my second born home, I was surprised by how much more at ease I felt compared to my first. There were no new-mom jitters, no overwhelming fear when the nurses left the room at the hospital. I knew what to expect. I was able to really soak in the experience, enjoying the quiet moments with my baby and husband. I could breathe easier, knowing that I had done this before. One of the most precious gifts I’ve experienced as a second-time mom is the ability to truly be present. I was able to cherish the contact naps, knowing they wouldn’t last forever. With my first, I worried about every little thing, from sleep patterns to feeding schedules. But with my second, I knew how quickly those fleeting moments would pass.
